U! S! A!

We are just days away from the 4th of July holiday weekend which means...get ready to hear those loud firework booms all....weekend....long.....

But maybe you are looking to enjoy the holiday and its typical traditions, but really can't handle the loud noises that come with fireworks. (There are more people who this description applies to than you would think)

Listen to Nicole Murray middays on 94.3 The Point and download our free 94.3 The Point app.

What are your thoughts on a laser show that gives you the benefits of exciting visuals without the loud noises??

Well you can experience just that at Novins Planetarium located at the Ocean County College. The official address is 1 College Drive in Toms River.

Coming up at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 2nd and 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 3rd (yes, this weekend) they will be hosting their annual Laser Spirit: A Patriotic Laser Experience Show.

This show takes place in the planetarium itself -- which I've seen. Picture a bunch of comfortable, movie theatre-like seats with a large dome over them all.

You lay back and enjoy a show filled with lasers and digital fireworks that will also be mixed with various types of music including: classic rock, adult contemporary and patriotic music!

Here is what is listed in the description on their website:

"This program is accompanied with stirring laser effects and beautiful background artwork and images that all come together to produce an uplifting and inspirational experience. Visitors of all ages will enjoy this fun and unique laser presentation!"

There are plenty of people who are sensitive to loud noises and I really do think that this alternative is a perfect compromise!

Just a warning, I was able to get in touch with Cara Muscio, the manager of the Novins Planetarium, who did want to make sure people know this show will be a tad different this year.

"Our Tech, Kevin created a fireworks finale with the 1812 overture for this year – so it might be a little louder at the end with the cannon blasts," explained Muscio. "But it’s still a great alternative to live fireworks if folks are looking for that."

If you don't have a chance to get out to the planetarium this holiday weekend, take a look at their calendar because there are plenty of other events.

Some of the most eye-catching include their Christmas Eve Celebration in July and Laser RocketMan featuring an entire night dedicated to Elton John's music!
