I finally made it here

It’s been 47 days since I last talked to you and certainly a lot has happened during that period.  Some of those topics will be here for a while so I’ll have plenty of opportunity to address them.  For now I will give you an update on my health and let me first say I appreciate the many of you who have reached out in one fashion or another with good wishes.

So I underwent spinal fusion surgery for my L-4, L-5 & S-1 on May 20 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.  The near five-hour procedure was deemed a success as my surgeon placed two metal cages in my lower back along with other hardware.

Unfortunately a nerve issue arose in my left foot which has limited some movement and strength and does impact my walking.  I have to include a brace in my shoe which is not a big deal but has limited by summer footwear selection which is a bit of a downer.

I am going for PT at Atlantic Physical Therapy Center and the hope is that over time the nerves will regenerate and I will get back all if not most of what I have lost.  Bottom line is I need to have patience which clearly is not in line with my DNA.  I guess in this case I have no choice.

If you follow along then you know I live for summer and the North Avenue beach in Seaside Park.  Normally I would already have most of my summer tan but getting to the beach in my current condition was a no-go.  That was until yesterday when I hit the sand for the very first time on what turned out to be a perfect day.  What a lift it was to be able to spend July 4th in my "happy place" and I can't wait to do it again.

Anyway I am back and while not “better than ever” grateful for the opportunity to share thoughts with you again.
