The Heat Is On!

It will definitely feel like the "dog days of summer" for a good part of this week with our next mini heat wave making its way through the Garden State. Wednesday may be a record breaker as the actual temps will head towards triple digits which means it will be hot!

According to the Bergen Record, "The all-time high temperature in New Jersey is 110 degrees, recorded on July 10, 1936 at a weather station near Old Bridge, according to Bob Ziff of the North Jersey Weather Observers. Bergenfield hit its record of 105 degrees on July 6, 2010, the same day as Cedar Grove's high benchmark of 104." So it seems this is the "hot" season in Jersey with all these record highs happening in July.

This Weeks Forecast

We are under an excessive heat warning from now through Wednesday, July 17th. The first three days of this week will be the hottest. We will see a break finally by Thursday when rain and cooler temps in the 80s are in the forecast.

TODAY: Partly to mostly sunny, highs near 95.

TUESDAY: Sunny, highs near 98

WEDNESDAY: Partly Sunny, highs near 93

THURSDAY: Chance of rain (55%), highs near 85.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny, Highs around 85

Make sure to watch the elderly and small children during this mini heat wave. Also, be sure to watch out for pets and make sure they are not exposed to these brutally hot temps as well. Remember when walking pets that the ground (concrete and asphalt) gets extremely hot and they do not have protective footgear on so they can burn their paws. Drink plenty of water, seek air conditioning, and don't over-exert yourself in this type of summer weather.
