I love going to Smithville. It's a cool shopping village in South Jersey, and it's always a fun trip.

The historic town of Smithville is hosting its annual Italian Festival this Saturday, September 19th. The weekend highlights delicious Italian food and music, plus lots of great shopping.

The Smithville Italian Festival runs Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm with free admission and parking. There will be awesome Italian foods for purchase and vendors to shop with.

Have You Been Shopping at Historic Smithville?

I always think it is fun when you can go shopping and feel like you are somewhere completely different. That's one of the things I like about Historic Smithville in Galloway Township.

Smithville isn't your typical shopping center. There aren't rows of big stores and huge parking lots. Instead, you walk around an old-fashioned village with small shops, brick walkways, bridges, and plenty of places to stop and look around.

How Did Historic Smithville Get Started?

The history of Smithville goes back to 1787, when the building that became the Smithville Inn was built. It originally served travelers along the old stagecoach route.

Years later, Fred and Ethel Noyes purchased the old inn in 1952 and restored it. They eventually started bringing other historic buildings from around South Jersey to the property and turned them into shops and businesses.

What Can You Shop For at Historic Smithville, New Jersey?

Today, Historic Smithville has more than 50 shops, so there is plenty to look at. You can find clothing, jewelry, gifts, home décor, collectibles, specialty foods, candy, and plenty of other interesting things.

I think that's part of the fun of going there. You don't necessarily have to go looking for something specific. You can just walk around, check out the stores and see what catches your eye.

There are also restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and places to grab something sweet while you're walking around.

And if shopping isn't your only reason for going, there is plenty more to see, including Lake Meone, a carousel, train rides and paddle boats.

For me, Smithville is one of those places where you can spend a few hours without really having a plan. Walk around, do a little shopping, grab something to eat, and just enjoy the atmosphere.

That's what makes it different from your everyday shopping trip.

Have you ever been to Historic Smithville? What's your favorite shop or thing to do there?
