Anyone who knows the story of Peter Cancro and Jersey Mike’s will agree it’s truly one of the great American business success stories of all time.

As a senior at Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1975 the three-sport athlete purchased what was then Mike’s Subs (where he worked) gave up plans to attend the University of North Carolina and began building what has become a sandwich empire.

From that one store Jersey Mike’s has grown to more than 2,500 locations either open or in development in 48 states.  While there are 102 now open in New Jersey that number is well behind California which has 294 followed by Florida, Texas and North Carolina.  There are even two in Canada and three in Australia.

While this is all impressive in some ways in pales in comparison to the charitable giving Cancro has done through Jersey Mike’s.  You will see it on their website and hear it time and time again: ”Our Mission: Giving…Making a Difference in Someone’s Life.”   They have and do, time and time again.  The list of organizations they have supported is seemingly endless.

This weekend they will once again help with the challenge food banks across the country are facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Jersey Mike’s will team up with Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the nation on a special fundraising event.

On Saturday and Sunday my favorite sub shops will donate 20% of sales to Feeding America and Cancro has pledged a minimum donation of $2.5 million.   If this sounds somewhat familiar it’s because back in April as the impact of the pandemic hit so many they raised more than $2 million which translated into millions of meals through the organization’s nationwide network of food banks.

So on Saturday & Sunday where you place your order in person or through their website or app please now you will be making a difference as well.  Jersey Mike’s is a sub above!
