A Hazlet Township man has been arrested and charged with allegedly committing patricide at his father's home.

The horrifying details of the Hazlet man murdering his own father have been announced by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office on Thursday.

Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said that 43-year-old Ernest K. Kotey broke into his father's home on Wednesday, killed his father and brutally attacked his aunt.

Hazlet Police responded to the home along the 300 block of Middle Road just after midnight and found 77-year-old Nikoi Kotey unresponsive in a bedroom, Acting Prosecutor Linskey said.

Kotey was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City where he was pronounced deceased around 5:45 pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Acting Prosecutor Linskey said that the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Bureau and Hazlet police learned that Ernest Kotey broke into the home through a back entrance, "confronted his father, and physically attacked him, causing fatal injuries."

Investigators said Ernest Kotey then went downstairs and attacked his 67-year-old aunt by grabbing her by the throat.

Acting Prosecutor Linskey said that Ernest Kotey was arrested at the scene, and brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he will remain, pending a detention hearing in Monmouth County Superior Court.
