Glimmer Glass Bridge closed for repairs TFN

BRIELLE - Fixing the Glimmer Glass Bridge, between Manasquan and Brielle, will take longer than Monmouth County engineers anticipated. So, the routine-maintenance closure that was scheduled to wrap up is now a repair closure until further notice.

"Monmouth County prides itself on safety, especially with its movable bridges," said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, Public Works and Engineering liaison, in a prepared comment. "We apologize for any inconvenience to the traveling public and thank everyone for their patience while this work is completed."

Spots needing repair came to the attention of engineers during the scheduled maintenance. County officials did not specify what is broken, worn or out of order, but said that they're setting no reopening date until they know how much time will be needed to complete repairs.

A response to an inquiry about the nature of the new problems, through county Communications Director Jennifer Nelson, is attributed to Arnone:

“The Glimmer Glass Bridge was originally closed for routine maintenance. As part of that work, it was determined that additional repairs would be needed,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The bridge is currently being evaluated so a detailed scope of the additional work is not available at this time. We will update the public on the bridge’s reopening as soon as possible.”

County officials did not suggest alternate routes, saying that detour signs are posted. However, the most reasonable route around it seems to run between Fisk Avenue and Main Street, via Route 71.
