Depending on who you ask or what you read, last weekend's events in Long Branch, New Jersey caused quite a stir. The Long Branch Office Of The Mayor said that "thousands of young people from all over the state gathered along the beachfront around Pier Village." They went on to say that there was "unruly behavior" and that  "the crowd was eventually dispersed. The police arrested four individuals for disorderly persons offenses." Here we are just a few days later and  the Office Of the Director of Public Safety made a surprising announcement.

The City of Long Branch will be postponing the 4th of July Fireworks this year. Our Public Safety Director has been in contact with state and county law enforcement officials. He has made the decision that this postponement is in the best interest of our residents and businesses. We will be announcing the future date of the fireworks show later this Summer.
Please note that we have the best intelligence available in terms of crowd control for the Oceanfront area. The safety and security of our residents will always be our first priority.
This is quite surprising.  The Fourth of July Oceanfest Firworks are a big deal with beautiful red, white, and blue lights in the sky over the beach.  Sadly, we will not see it this year...at least not on the 4th.  And we can all speculate why, but regardless it's quite sad.  Thankfully, there are lots of other great events to see around New Jersey for the 4th, LIKE THESE:
