Freehold Township woman dies in Rt. 9 pedestrian crash
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - A township woman attempts to cross Route 9, but never reaches the other side, dead after being run down on the highway Wednesday night.
Marie R. Casalino, 67, was pronounced dead at 9:21 PM, about 15 minutes after she stepped onto the highway in front of the Freehold Raceway Mall, according to Monmouth County investigators, who identified the driver of the 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara as Nicholas Berenbroick, 23, also of Freehold Township.
No charges have been filed to this point. Investigators in the Prosecutor's Office, the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Freehold Township police seek witnesses as they piece together the moments leading up to the impact.
Authorities disclosed no details regarding speed, visibility, possible distractions, or whether the victim was in a crosswalk, or the traffic signal display.
