The C. Richard Applegate Elementary School was briefly evacuated Wednesday morning around 11:00 am after a small oven fire started up in the kitchen area, according to Freehold Township Police.

The East Freehold Fire Company was able to quickly douse the flames and contain the smoke to the cafeteria.

Students then returned to class where they were later served lunch.

Officers reported that the students loved to see the fire fighters and police officers on the scene, giving them many "High Five's" and "Thank you's."
