Everyone has their own definition of what Christmas is all about and to me it’s not about the day but the season which separates it from other great holidays like Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.  Those are fun-filled days and maybe even a weekend loaded with tradition but for the most part it’s a one-and-done thing.  For some diehards the Christmas season begins the day after Halloween and while that’s a bit early I do understand why.  Regardless of what’s going on around us we need and deserve some joy in our lives and for many this time of year allows just that.

Many take great pride in the decorating of their homes, both inside and out and while those large inflatables on front lawns are not for me they are indeed festive. Then there is the Christmas tree and from the time I was growing up it always had to be a real tree, one that offered the smell which let you know it was Christmas.  To me not having a real tree was almost blasphemous but a couple of years ago we purchased new furniture for the living room and it took away the spot where the tree used to go. So now we have one of those pre-lit trees with clear lights and I actually like it and there are no needles to pick up.

For some reason and I not exactly sure why I’ve grown to like the holiday season a bit more in recent years but am struggling in 2022 mostly because of ongoing issues with my back and foot.  As you might know I have somewhat of an obsession with Christmas movies and I’m even okay with the holiday music we’ve been playing 24/7 for several weeks.  However we are only days away from the big day and frankly I’m was not feeling the spirit until recently when I started focusing on my 3 ½ year old grandson.  I can’t wait to see the look on Carter’s face when Santa pays a visit on Christmas Eve and leaves him many and I mean many packages to open.  He’s blessed to have that and I’m blessed to have him and a great family so that will make for a joyous time.
