Fireworks Over Beachwood for the 78th Time

If you’re old enough you might remember when just about every local town had fireworks on the 4^th of July to celebrate our nation’s birthday.

Unfortunately that number has dwindled over the years because local municipalities and governments can no longer take on the financial obligation that goes with hosting a fireworks show.

However next Wednesday for the 78^th time the Borough of Beachwood will once again play host to something as traditional as apple pie.  As one who has been on the committee that helps put this together I can tell you that the financial challenge is getting greater each year as the fireworks shoot is done strictly through donations including those from companies like WOBM/Townsquare Media, Comcast, Spirits Unlimited, First Energy and Connor, Strong & Buckelew.

Most importantly we rely on individual donations from the public who want to see the tradition continue but those donations have dwindled in recent years.

We have always said that if everyone who watches the fireworks along the river in Beachwood, Toms River, Pine Beach, Ocean Gate, Island Heights and South Toms River donated just $1.00 then it would easily cover the cost.  That doesn’t even take into account the hundreds of boats in the river and bay who will drop anchor have a truly great viewing spot.

The borough of Beachwood takes the lead with great support from their Police and Public Works Departments along with dedicated volunteers from fire and first aid squads.  They also enlist and receive support from surrounding towns when it comes to safety issues and traffic control but again for this eight decade tradition to continue financial support is a must.
