Bayville Heartbroken After Fire at Beloved Restaurant Grits & Grace
For many people in our community, breakfast or lunch at Grits & Grace isn’t just about the food. It’s about the feeling you get when you walk through the door. We have a lot of these places in New Jersey.

It’s familiar faces, friendly conversations, and the comfort of a place that feels like part of the neighborhood.
That’s why last night felt especially heavy for so many of us in Bayville, New Jersey.
Sirens and Smoke in Bayville, NJ
Sirens filled the air as emergency crews rushed to a structure fire at Grits & Grace. For a while, Route 9 was shut down as firefighters worked quickly and carefully to get the situation under control.
Many residents stepped outside, checked local community pages, or messaged friends trying to understand what was happening.
Fire Breaks Out at Beloved Grits & Grace
When the news started spreading that the fire was at Grits & Grace, hearts sank across town.
If you live in Bayville, you know it.
If you live nearby, you’ve probably eaten there.
This morning I took a picture before coming to work after the fire.
It’s one of those places where families gather after church, friends meet for breakfast, and locals stop in for a comforting meal and a smile. Over the years, it has become more than just a restaurant, it’s part of the rhythm of everyday life in our community.
The good news is that the firefighters did an incredible job responding to the scene. The crews worked hard to battle the flames and protect the surrounding area, reminding us once again how fortunate we are to have such dedicated first responders watching over our town.
At this point, there are still many unanswered questions about what caused the fire. What we do know is that moments like this remind us how much small local places mean to us. They’re where memories happen.
Hoping Everyone Is Safe
Right now, the entire community is hoping and praying that everyone connected to Grits & Grace is safe and that no one was hurt.
A little piece of Bayville’s heart felt shaken last night, but if there’s one thing our town knows how to do, it’s come together during difficult moments.
We’ll be keeping Grits & Grace, their staff, and everyone affected by the fire in our thoughts. And like so many others in town, we’re hoping the day will come soon when the doors open again and the smell of breakfast once again fills the air.
Because places like Grits & Grace aren’t just restaurants. They’re part of home. ❤️
