There are about 100 firefighters and first responders from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst fire services, New Jersey State Forest Service including aerial support and Burlington County Strike Team working to contain a 660 acre active fire on the base.

Base officials say there have been no evacuations or structural damage, and operations are expected to continue throughout the night.

The fire sparked around 2:30 p.m. on a training range on base near the Browns Mills section.

As a result, Pemberton Browns Mills Road, Juliustown Road and Pointville Road have been closed until further notice.

Base officials say there is no threat to the installation or community at this time.

Due to partial road closures, JB MDL employees who use the Browns Mills Gate or Pemberton Gate are encouraged to use an alternate gate for base access tomorrow to allow for crews to keep working.

The gates will remain open.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This article has been updated to show that the reported acreage has dropped from 1,200 to 660.
