There is no question New Jersey has a lot of rich areas. But, despite that, you're most likely going to be surprised at just how rich we are.

Of course, just here in the Monmouth County area, we have our share of rich places like Rumson and Holmdel, and Colts Neck, just to name a few. But every area has rich spots. Does that necessarily make us a rich state?

Well, according to a recent report, we are not only a rich state, but we came pretty darn close to being named the richest state in the whole country.

According to World Population Review, New Jersey is among the top 5 richest states in the nation for 2022. I know I speak for a lot of us when I say, "You could've fooled me".

Here are some of the details reported in the article that led to New Jersey's very lofty wealth ranking.

Here in the Garden State, the median household income is $85,751. That's a nice chunk of change.

New Jersey is thankfully also one of the lowest states for poverty, ranking as the state with the fifth-lowest poverty rate at 9.2%.

We also get high marks when it comes to education, according to this report, with the 4th highest percentage of residents with a Bachelor's degree. (38.9%).

All of that combined leads us to be one of the richest states in the nation for 2022. You (and I) may find that especially hard to believe, especially on bill day.

For the record, the states higher than us on the list were Massachusetts (3), Maryland (#2), and the District of Columbia on top of the list.
