A suspicious vehicle circling the Wawa parking lot at Routes 70 and 539 in Manchester's Whiting section Wednesday night, led to police seizing quantities of heroin and oxycodone, according to Township police.

Authorities said when members of the Department's Narcotics Enforcement Team stopped 19-year-old Joshua Fields of Hamilton around 6:15 p.m., he fled on foot into the store, but was immediately greeted by K-9 officer Storm as he tried exiting from a different door.

Fields was taken into custody without incident.

An investigation uncovered the drugs in Field's vehicle and determined he planned to sell the heroin in the Wawa parking lot, according to authorities. His Pontiac Grand Am was towed to police headquarters pending further investigation.

Fields was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of oxycodone, possession of drug paraphernalia and hindering apprehension.

Fields was transferred to Ocean County Jail in default of $5,000 bail.
