  • Police Investigating Rare Bear Encounter in NJ

This is a story you can definitely tell your grandkids, and in this case, may your great-grandkids. It sounds like something out of a movie, but this actually happened right here in New Jersey.

According to officials, a 90-year-old woman was attacked by a black bear while she was shopping at a dollar store in Sussex County. Yes, a 175-pound black bear found its way into a dollar store and began making its way up and down the aisles.

Imagine looking for garbage bags and seeing a bear, yes, a black bear making its way towards you! What do you do? Throw a bag of no-name candy its way? Not sure.

According to Patch, "On Tuesday, around 3:30 p.m., Vernon police received a call from the owner of Mountain Dispensary, on Route 94, that a 175-pound black bear had attacked his dog and chased two of his employees. Moments later, an employee from the business next door, Dollar General, called Vernon police, saying that the bear had wandered into the dollar store."
