Ruthless deer causes second motorcycle crash of the weekend in Manchester, NJ

For the second time in as many days, a motorcycle crash occurred on Sunday afternoon on the same road that a fatal motorcycle crash occurred on nearly 24-hours earlier in Manchester Township.

On Saturday afternoon, a man lost control of his motorcycle as the man riding in front of him was slowing down to help a motorist in need on the side of Pasadena Road near Mount Misery Road in Whiting.

In that accident, both men were ejected from their motorcycles and sustained varying injuries.

The man who was in the back was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday afternoon around 5:36 pm, a reckless deer darted out onto Pasadena Road near Mount Misery Road in Whiting and right into a red 2018 Harley Davidson Road Glide motorcycle on the westbound side of the road.

The driver of the motorcycle, Frederick Fritz, 55, of Manchester, and his passenger, Phyllis Fritz, 53,  of Manchester were both then ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the collision.

Manchester Police said that the motorcycle kept its momentum down the road and then fell onto the shoulder of the road.

Frederick and Phyllis were brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The crash remains under investigation but police said that they determined the cause to be "a deer crossing the roadway in such a manner that did not allow for Mr. Fritz to react or attempt any evasive maneuvers prior to being impacted."

Typically, deer mating season or "the rut" sees more deer in New Jersey between October and January but due to an overpopulation of deer, you'll see these animals out there more often so pay extra attention to your surroundings when it's dark.
