About 6 months ago my sister and I bought tickets to see a Broadway show that had been getting a lot of buzz.  Our performance date finally arrived and we enjoyed the musical very much.

"Dear Evan Hansen" won 6 of the 9 Tony Awards it was nominated for and I'm not surprised.  The show touches on some very contemporary themes such as social media and bullying, and also has the makings of more traditional Broadway shows; family, young love, friendships, etc.

"Dear Evan Hansen" is the story of a high school boy who feels invisible.  You'll get a better understanding of the plot by reading this from the show's promotional material: "A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. Both deeply personal and profoundly contemporary, Dear Evan Hansen is a new American musical about life and the way we live it."

The title role is played by Ben Platt from the "Pitch Perfect" movies.  You should know though that his final performance will be Nov. 19th.  And he's not doing any more matinees between now and then.  My sister and I saw the understudy during our matinee and he was excellent so I'd still recommend the show, no matter who's starring that day or night.

With New York's Theatre District relatively easy to get to from Ocean County, I thought you might want to know about this thoroughly modern musical with excellent performances and a compelling story.

What's the last Broadway show you saw?  Do you recommend it?
