TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie makes no apologies for his confrontation with a Cubs fan in the stands at Milwaukee's Miller Park during the Brewers-Cubs game on Sunday. And the Cubs fan who wants to continue the confrontation.

He told CNN's Jake Tapper that fan Brad Joseph swore and yelled some "really lousy, awful stuff" at him that he first let pass.

"He went in for seconds. I've always said this, whether it was at my town hall meetings or anyplace else if you give it, you're gonna get it back," Christie said.

Christie said his reaction was "mellow" for what one could expect to hear from the governor of New Jersey — who recalled the infamous confrontation he'd once had with a man on the Seaside Heights boardwalk as he held an ice cream cone. Back in 2012, as the governor and his family were on the boardwalk Thursday night, someone walking by spotted Christie and made a comment about teachers. Christie replied, “You’re a real big shot … you’re a real big shot shootin’ your mouth off.”

Christie said much the same to the Cubs fan:

"Public officials are public servants. But they're not meant to be public punching bags," Christie said.

In a post on his Facebook page, Joseph wrote that the amateur mixed martial arts group Tuff 'n' Uff has agreed to put on an event between him and Christie.

"I'll agree to compete under any standard rules you want, whether its MMA, boxing, freestyle, folkstyle, or Greco-Roman wrestling. Just let me know if you still want to make this physical. You won't even have to cut any weight. I doubt you'll agree to it, but McGregor-Mayweather surprised us all," Joseph wrote.

Joseph wrote he was among several fans heckling Christie and joined in by saying "you suck" when the governor was heading to the concession stand for a tray of nachos. He also said he called Christie a "hypocrite."

He thought Christie's comeback of "have another beer" was a "decent comeback" but quickly realized Christie was not in a joking mood.

"He came a few inches from my face and began to call me a 'big shot' and a 'tough guy' and asking 'what are you gonna do now?'" Joseph wrote. "He was close enough that I could feel his breath on my face as he shouted at me. He never denied being a hypocrite. Then, his right foot stepped well outside of the aisle and into our row, and he began to hit my leg with his knee in an aggressive fashion."

Joseph wrote that someone from Christie's security detail threatened to have him "locked up" and that he regrets saying "you suck."

"What I do not regret is calling Chris Christie a hypocrite. This is a man who made a career out of demonizing public corruption only to become exactly what he denounced," Jospeh wrote, adding that he is a registered Republican who voted for Donald Trump.

"I do think that Chris Christie is an embarrassment to the party and his ties to Trump during the campaign gave me great cause for concern," Joseph wrote. "During a discussion last year before the election, where I argued that Hillary Clinton ought to be prosecuted for her corruption, a friend challenged me about corruption within the republican party, and specifically asked about Chris Christie. I said then that it doesn't matter which party someone is from, the system breaks down if we ignore hard evidence of corruption because the person happens to share our opinions on some other issue. That friend told me today that I put my money where my mouth is by calling out Chris Christie in public."

The governor  got into trouble in 2011 for asking the media to "take the bat out" on Sen. Loretta Weinberg over their disagreement over pension double dipping. The governor called Assemblyman Reed Gusciora "numbnuts" in 2012 during a discussion about putting the legalization of gay marriage to a referendum. At a 2014 town meeting in Belmar he told former Asbury Park councilman Jim Keady to "sit down and shut up" when they tangled about the response to superstorm Sandy.

Christie also admonished residents to "get the hell off the beach" as Hurricane Irene approached the Shore in 2011.
