Jersey Shore drivers are being given a heads up this week as a couple road projects will be affecting people across Monmouth, Ocean and Burlington Counties over the next few days.

The Glimmer Glass Bridge will be closed on Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. while maintenance work is performed.

“The cables on the bridge need to be realigned, so we will need to close the bridge for six hours,” Freeholder Director Tom Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering, said. “We appreciate the patience of our residents and visitors while this maintenance work is being performed.”

The bridge will continue to operate normally for marine traffic, but is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic while the work is being performed.

Vehicles should follow the posted detour signs.

Meanwhile, the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced the beginning of a pavement preservation project requiring overnight lane closures and alternating traffic on Route 72 in Burlington and Ocean Counties.

Between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. the next day, and continuing daily through Thursday, NJDOT’s contractor, Asphalt Paving Systems, will close a segment of Route 72 eastbound between the Four-Mile Circle in and Savoy Boulevard in Woodland Township, Burlington County, and set up alternating traffic to apply slurry seal.

Work will begin near the Four Mile Circle and progress east towards Savoy Boulevard. When that work is complete, slurry seal will be applied on Route 72 westbound.

Following the completion of work in Burlington County, work will shift to Route 72 in Ocean County between Stevens Ash Road in Stafford and Stevens Road in Barnegat.

The $4.6-million federally-funded Route 72 pavement preservation project will extend the pavement life, improve safety and enhance ride quality for motorists while reducing future maintenance costs. It is expected to be complete by fall 2020.

The precise nature and timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
