Comfy, Safe and Efficient Backpack Ideas For Kids

School is back in session. YUCK!

I remember as the summer was coming to an end, Labor Day Weekend meant it was time to head back to school.

It also meant the weather was going to change, and the sun was going to set earlier….and earlier…and earlier.

But I digress.

As the little ones head back to class, they need to be ready to go.  This year their gear will include a mask to protect them and their peers from contracting covid19.

Governor Phil Murphy made that very clear last week.  Some school districts are going as far as saying if the school body, students, teachers, and staff don’t comply with the new mandate, they could go to jail.  Really?

I also heard that some schools have forgone the idea of allowing students from using their lockers.  Wow!

That means your kid will have one less excuse for being late to class.  They can’t blame it on their locker.

But what it really is going to do is make it even more of a challenge to attend in-class learning.  They will have to carry everything they need in the right backpack.

Be very conscious about weight.  Studies show your child's backpack should weigh no more than "5 to 10 percent of his or her body weight."

This year comfort may have to win the day.  I don’t think the cutest backpack is in order here.  Although, if you can find one, go for it.

There are all kinds of backpacks.  But according to a study done by the New York Times, your child’s backpack should “be appropriately sized for smaller bodies and comfortable to lug around.” Not to mention heavy-duty enough to last the whole school year.
