Camden County driver survives crash in Monmouth, charged with DUI

He sustained only minor injuries after his car slammed a tree Thursday in Monmouth's Ocean Township, but a Haddon Heights man is charged with driving while intoxicated as a result.

Matthew R. Brown, 21, was placed under arrest, then treated for injuries at Monmouth Medical Center after the collision on Larchwood Road at about 5:26 PM, police said.

His 1999 Honda Accord came to rest in the middle of Park Avenue, authorities said.

Brown was also charged with careless driving, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to maintain a lane and carrying an open alcohol container in the car. He's ordered to return for a court appearance.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
