Bus driver charged with DWI after crash at OCVTS in Toms River
A Lacey Township bus driver is charged with DWI after crashing into an unoccupied bus at the Ocean County Vocational Technical School on Old Freehold Road in Toms River on Monday around 7:30 am.
There were 28-students on board 57-year old Cheryl Rooth's bus and eight of them suffered minor injuries and three of the students were juveniles.
Police say that Rooth, who lives in Whiting, was pulling into the OCVTS parking lot to drop off students.
As she pulled behind another bus to drop off her students she did not stop in time and struck the rear of the unoccupied bus parked in front of her.
Rooth was not under the influence of alcohol, but police say she was allegedly under the influence of prescription medication and charged with DWI, DWI in a School Zone, DWI through a school crossing, and DWI with a minor in the vehicle.
The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety officer Robert Westfall.
