I thought something looked different on Route 70.

Burger King has been making closures throughout the state and the latest ones hit here at the Jersey Shore. Thanks to my friend Nicole Murray at our sister station, 94.3 the Point, for giving us the heads up that Burger King has closed 2 Jersey Shore locations. The restaurants on Newman Springs Road in Tinton Falls and Route 70 in Lakehurst have both closed its doors.

This article from the Asbury Park Press reports that the closed restaurants have already taken down the Burger King signs, and closure notes thanking customers for their business were left on the doors.

Why the sudden closures? Check out this explanation from Burger King's parent company:

These restaurants that we close were in good trade areas that have evolved, and they’re no longer in the right trade area, and we’re reopening new stores with better unit economics, better image, better experience, better technology

So when one door closes, another door opens in this situation. A few weeks ago, we told you that there is already one being planned for Lacey. There are still other BK locations that you can satisfy your whopper cravings at - the APP notes that the Toms River restaurants at 803 Route 37 West and 44 Route 37 East are still open.
