Brick woman pleads guilty to manslaughter in death of fiancé

A Brick woman who stabbed her fiancé who later died in September of 2019 has plead guilty to Reckless Manslaughter, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

Ciara Williams, 27, is looking at a possible five years in State Prison at the time of sentencing in September of 2020.

She was initially charged with murder and weapons offenses in October of 2019 after stabbing 35-year old Dennis Power in the chest during an argument at their home on September 29.

Power was found unconscious but breathing inside of a vehicle abandoned by Williams.

He was rushed inside Ocean Medical Center and lifesaving measures were attempted but tragically could not save his life.

An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit revealed that Williams stabbed Power in the chest, and was responsible for the injuries which ultimately led to his death.

“Although Ms. Williams was originally facing more significant charges with greater sentencing exposure, legitimate self-defense claims arose during the course of our investigation which we simply could not ignore, and which we were required to take into account in evaluating this very difficult case,” Prosecutor Billhimer said. “The claims of self-defense, combined with considerable proof problems led to this resolution which we believe to be just and reasonable after careful consideration of the facts under circumstances."
