Brick Township Police Patrolman Daniel Fogarty, a U.S. Coast Guard reservist, heads the new water safety initiative, with a crew taking to the bay, rivers and lagoons from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Brick PD bought the 25-foot Defender Class Safe Boat from the U.S. Coast Guard at Sandy Hook, using drug forfeiture funds. It's got twin 225-horsepower Honda engines.

Police hope for a fun, incident-free summer, but they promise that they will cite anyone who isn't following the rules and regulations of safe boating.
