Brick Township Police launch new patrol vessel
A new guardian of the waters off Brick Township casts off, keeping watch for the reckless, the careless, the ignorant, and others whose operation of water craft endangers everyone else.
Brick Township Police Patrolman Daniel Fogarty, a U.S. Coast Guard reservist, heads the new water safety initiative, with a crew taking to the bay, rivers and lagoons from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Brick PD bought the 25-foot Defender Class Safe Boat from the U.S. Coast Guard at Sandy Hook, using drug forfeiture funds. It's got twin 225-horsepower Honda engines.
Police hope for a fun, incident-free summer, but they promise that they will cite anyone who isn't following the rules and regulations of safe boating.
