Brick Plaza stores briefly evacuated for gas leak

A gas leak behind the LA Fitness in the Brick Plaza Thursday morning evacuated the gym and surrounding stores.

Brick Township Police say the leak, reported around 10:44 am, was the result of a contractor striking a gas meter.

Police and EMTs responded along with fire personnel from Pioneer Hose, Breton Woods, Laurelton Fire Departments and the Fire Safety Bureau.

NJNG was also at the scene and was able to shut the gas off to stop the leak.

Surrounding stores in Brick Plaza were evacuated and checked for residual gas that may have accumulated.

All stores are now open with the exception of LA Fitness.

There were no injuries reported on scene.
