BlueClaws 22nd Home Opener Set For Tuesday
TAYLOR M PIETRANGELO
The Jersey Shore BlueClaws are set for their 22nd home opener Tuesday night when they welcome the Greensboro Grasshoppers into ShoreTown Ballpark. I’ve only missed one home opener in franchise history and I’ll be there for this one which is presented by Jenkinson’s Boardwalk. The weather looks terrific for not only the home opener but the six-game homestand which comes during spring break for most schools.
Following pandemic restrictions in 2021 things got back to normal last season which resulted in 14 sellouts and the BlueClaws welcoming their 8-millionth fan through the gates in Kristen Palmer of Holmdel. Two of those sellouts were Marvel Super Hero Nights so this year the team will host three…Black Panther on May 19th, Spider-Man on June 24th and Captain Marvel on August 5th.
Among the additions fans will find is a Sumer Saturday Ticket Package, a jumbo Adirondack Chair in right field and the second season of the Blue Wave Bar will find the popular second-level destination open to any fan at any game. A full-service restaurant with items not available anywhere else in the ballpark the bar was only open to season ticket holders last year…now any fan can hang out there.
The Phillies minor league affiliate welcomes a new manager in 31-year old Greg Brodzinski who spent last year as the bench coach with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and before that was the Phillies bullpen catcher and catching coach for two seasons. Among the top prospects on this year’s team are 20-year old second baseman Hao-Yu-Lee, (How-You-Lee), the #5 prospect in the Phillies system, 22-year old centerfielder Marcus Lee Sang and first baseman Rixon Wingrove from Australia who played on their World Baseball Classic team last month.
For fans going Tuesday and to any game this season be aware that the BlueClaws have implemented a cashless system for the purchase of tickets as well as all concessions and games inside ShoreTown Ballpark. In other words bring your credit card for hot dogs and more.
At the conclusion of the game fans can enjoy the first of 11 fireworks shows during the course of the season. For tickets and more visit www.blueclaws.com
