Big Lots Is Making A Big Comeback, Reopening 70 Stores After Bankruptcy
I think we have all shopped at Big Lots at some point and probably found something for our homes. Whether it was food, decor, or a holiday item, there are some intriguing items to look over every time you go to a Big Lots. What have you found at Big Lots? The problem is that the chain has had to close stores while dealing with bankruptcy.

I recently was reading some good news for fans of Big Lots in an article by Andrew McCarty for Men's Journal. "In September 2024, Big Lots filed for bankruptcy and announced it would close all of its locations by the end of the year. However, Variety Wholesalers agreed to buy more than 200 Big Lots locations during a liquidation sale with the plan to relaunch the struggling retailer."
Recently, several Big Lots locations in New Jersey reopened as part of the Ocean State Job Lot company, which is not part of Variety Wholesalers. Stores that did reopen are:
- Barnegat: 580 N Main Street
- Cape May: 3845 Bayshore Road
- Somers Point: 257 W New Road
The first wave of Big Lots' reopening by Variety Wholesalers has begun across several states:
- 1342 Indian Mound Drive, Mount Sterling, Ky.
- 755 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, La.
- 2605 West Main Street, Tupelo, Miss.
- 5778 Highway 80 E, Pearl, Miss.
- 1432 E Dixie Drive, Asheboro, N.C.
- 1041 South Riverside Drive, Clarksville, Tenn.
- 744 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, Tenn.
- 220 Dickson Plaza Drive, Dickson, Tenn.
- 2911 Hershberger Road NW, Roanoke, Va.
Time will tell if more locations will reopen in New Jersey, but it appears Big Lots is not totally dead and maybe making a comeback here in the Garden State.
