Berkeley Township Police have arrested two men in connection to a string of car burglaries that occurred on Sunday night.

The Bayville section of the township has reportedly been a hotbed for burglaries recently with the latest incidents occurring in the Sloop Creek Drive area.

Several victims reported burglaries to their unlocked vehicles on Sunday to Berkeley Township Police with items including laptop computers, electronics, prescription pills, loose change, currency, gift cards and other personal items that were stolen.

Berkeley Township Detectives conducted a follow up investigation where they reviewed  surveillance footage and spoke with multiple concerned citizens and neighborhood residents already alerted to suspicious activity who, "greatly assisted the detective bureau In this case."

Detectives were then able to connect the dots and identify a suspect and connect certain evidence linking him to these crimes.

That led to a search warrant being executed on Monday night around 9:00 pm which concluded with the arrest of Michael Connet 36, of Bell Street in Bayville.

The Ocean County Regional SWAT Team assisted the Ocean County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit and Berkeley Township Police in executing the search warrant pm Monday night.

Connet and Joseph Collins, 41 also of Bell Street were found in the home with the items reported stolen by the victims.

As a result, Connet was charged with four burglaries, three of which occurred during on Sunday and an additional burglary which was committed in July in the same neighborhood.

Collins was arrested on an unrelated arrest warrant.

Both suspects were transported to the Ocean County Jail in accordance with the Bail Reform Act.

Police say that more arrests or charges are possible as the evidence is processed.
