Some of you might have read the story I posted on our website yesterday regarding the beach replenishment project which is about to impact Seaside Park during the height of the summer tourism season.

The contractor updated local officials earlier this week and said plans are for work to begin around 3rd Avenue in Seaside Park on August 6th.  According to what I was told by someone at the meeting approximately 1,000 feet of beachfront will be closed at a time which is about two blocks.  The project is scheduled to begin at 3rd Avenue and then move north which means many popular beaches would be closed for some period during the final weeks of the peak summer season.

The first phase of the work in Seaside Park would reach Porter Avenue which is the border with Seaside Heights around Labor Day.  It would then shift back to 3rd Avenue and move south to Berkeley Township during the month of September and would not begin in Seaside Heights until early October which is after the summer season.

Officials, business owners and residents in Seaside Park are not happy that with all they have had to deal with in recent years the summer season is being interrupted by a project that could have and should have not impacted them until after Labor Day.

The beach replenishment is part of a major effort by the Army Corps of Engineers to rebuild beaches as a result of Superstorm Sandy but many people believe it’s a waste of time and money because eventually Mother Nature will strike the Jersey Shore again.

The owners of the popular MJ’s Restaurants have opened a sixth location on Bay Boulevard in Bayville at the site of what used to be The Cove and going way back in time PJ’s On The Bay.  The newest location features a bay-front outdoor deck and tiki bar and the dining room and bar area have been newly remodeled.  MJ’s also has locations in Neptune, Matawan, Middletown, Tinton Falls and Spotswood.

I will admit to watching the ESPY’s last night which is ESPN’s version of the Academy Awards, Emmy’s and Grammy’s.  I thought Danica Patrick was a weak choice as the host and I was right as many of her scripted jokes did not go over well and some of the bits they put together were dreadful but the show did have plenty of highlights, some inspiring and emotional moments and a fair amount of eye-opening fashion statements.
