At a brief press conference Monday morning, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small says his city will temporarily allow open containers of alcohol in some areas.

The mayor's executive order authorizes the, "consumption of alcoholic beverages in certain areas of the boardwalk and other open container zones."

Amy S. Rosenberg was covering the press conference for the Philadelphia Inquirer and posted the following video on Twitter...

The idea of allowing alcohol on the boardwalk has been kicked-around by city officials for years. In 2016, then-Council President Marty Small supported a proposal but it was ultimately shelved by city council.

Last summer, a measure advanced out of a state Senate committee that would have allowed people of legal drinking age to carry one drink at a time along the beach, boardwalk, and other areas within the Atlantic City tourism district. Like previous attempts, that movement never materialized, either.
