SOUTH TOMS RIVER —Three people were shot early Sunday in at least two different locations, one of them along the same borough street where shots were fired last month.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said police responded to a report of someone running to a home in South Toms River for help after around 1:16 a.m. after having been shot at a different site.

The person was taken via medical helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to Billhimer, who did not disclose the age or gender of the injured individual or the specific address of the home.

Police told RLS Metro Breaking News earlier that the gunshot victim was found on Charles Avenue.

Billhimer said two other individuals with gunshot wounds arrived in separate vehicles at Community Medical Center in Toms River early Sunday. Investigators said both seem to have been shot in the same incident.  Bilhimer did not disclose a connection to the initial shooting.

The prosecutor did not give information on the identities of anyone involved with the shootings, or the location of the second incident.

Billhimer did thank Pine Beach and Beachwood police for the assistance with the investigation.

Several bullets and shell casings were recovered from Charles Avenue in July, after shots were fired but no one was injured.

Photos posted by Exit 80 Scanner News showed at least six evidence markers in the street. A photo tweeted by News 12 New Jersey reporter Jim Murdoch showed the door of a vehicle and a recycling container each with a bullet hole.

South Toms River is a borough located between Toms River and Beachwood with a population of just over 3,700.
