Two officers were on bike patrol along the 10 block of Atkins Avenue Thursday morning around 11:03 am when they saw a man, later identified as 19-year old Jakim Collins, wielding a knife outside Atkins Deli.
Police said that Collins was presenting the knife while arguing with another man who was inside the deli at the time.
When officers were placing Collins into custody, the man, identified as 22-year old Janeek Barone, came out the deli and said he was Collins’ brother.
He told police that there was no issue.
Barone was then asked not to obstruct the investigation as one of the officers began checking a bag Collins was carrying, which ended up having a Davis Model P-32 caliber loaded handgun with four rounds inside of it.
Police then learned that Barone had a similar shoulder bag when he entered the deli, which is where it was found.
Inside this bag, police found a second handgun, a Glock 21 45 caliber loaded with 11 rounds.
Collins and Barone were both then arrested and brought to the Asbury Park Police Department for processing.
Collins is charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Police said that he was also found to be in possession of and charged with the CDS of Crack Cocaine.
Barone is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Police said that he was also found to be in possession of and charged with Controlled Dangerous Substance Paraphernalia.
On Thursday afternoon, around 1:47 pm, police began looking into several complaints made by citizens regarding drug deals and weapons offenses taking place in the area of Springwood and Borden Avenues.
An officers was conducting surveillance in that area when he and another officer were able to identify and then arrest 20-year-old city resident Darshan Simmons for possession of a handgun, a Smith and Wesson 38 caliber loaded with 4 rounds.
Simmons was then brought to the Asbury Park Police Headquarters for processing and has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Police said that Simmons was also found to be in possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance CDS Paraphernalia.
Collins, Barone and Simmons were all brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution after processing.
