This week, a popular Jersey Shore destination took a decisive step to enforce social distancing measures that the township says that juveniles have routinely been ignoring.

In an emergency order that was posted to Long Beach Township's official website, people under 17 are prohibited from being outside without an adult after 9:00 P.M.

In the language of the emergency order, the Township gives a few reasons for the curfew, saying that kids have been gathering on both beaches and streets at night.

First, on the beach gatherings, the emergency order states:

"...prior events established that juveniles had been accessing the beaches during the evening and night hours in a manner that violates the aforesaid social distancing requirements...

As for kids gathering on the streets, the order goes on to say the following:

...recent events have established that juveniles are now congregating in large numbers on the streets after 9:00 p.m. in a manner that violates the aforesaid social distancing requirements...

The order goes into effect immediately to mandate that people who are 17 or under have to be accompanied by an adult after 9 at night.

Here's the exact wording, again from the emergency order:

...all persons 17 and under shall not be permitted outside upon a public street, avenue, boulevard, place, walkway, alley, park, or any public area or unimproved private property located in the Township after 9:00 p.m. and until 5:00 a.m [the following day]...

The order also says that the Long Beach Township Police Department and Beach Patrol will be enforcing the curfew.
