Allentown High School deemed safe following lockdown from phone threat

A lock-down is over and everyone is safe after a 9-1-1 call was made by an unspecified individual threatening to shoot up Allentown High School earlier today, New Jersey State Police tell WOBM News.

A threat was received over the phone via a 9-1-1 call with New Jersey State Police Troopers responding to the high school shortly after 12:30 pm.

The high school was put on lock-down as was Newell Elementary School and Stone Bridge Middle School as a precaution while police investigated the threat.

A State Police spokesman says a sweep of school was then conducted and it was deemed safe and that there was no threat to students and faculty.

Allentown Police tell the WOBM Newsroom that the caller used an accent told dispatch, "someone was walking into the Allentown High School in 5 minutes and going to shoot everyone".

As a precautionary measure, Allentown NJ Police dispatch advised Allentown PA Police of the incident.

Allentown Police Department, Homeland Security, New Jersey State Police, Hamilton Police and Allentown First Aid Squad all responded.

Further information regarding who the caller is, what charges they may be facing and where they phoned in the threat remains under investigation as does this incident overall.

Allentown NJ Police believe the incident is a "swattting" type of call where telephone numbers/ computer IP addresses are masked to conceal identity.
