Possible Shark Spotted Off The Coast Of New Jersey

It is summer and it is a time for a lot of folks to be in the Atlantic Ocean here along the Jersey Shore. Millions come to visit and spend time in Jersey during the summer. When we do get a visit from sharks in the area we wanna make sure we get information correct and don’t scare folks. At the same time when I come across information, I do want to share it. Recently the Patch reported a “possible” shark sighting and it could “possibly” be a great white.

According to the Patch report, a group of fishermen reported seeing a rather large shark recently off the coast, far off the coast, of New Jersey.Pearson's Pursuit Inshore Fishing shared that on July 14, they went out to Sea Isle Ridge - about 15 miles off Townsend's Inlet and about 22 miles off Atlantic City - in search of "some bonito or mackerel action." That didn't work out. Instead, fishermen wrote that they saw "the biggest shark of my life."
As we mentioned this sighting was well off the coast and no official I.D. was made, so this leaves maybe everyone wondering if in fact they encountered a real-life “Jaws”. We will try to keep you posted with any new information that is released.

According to Patch, It's not clear if it was in fact a great white shark or something else. OCEARCH, an organization that tags and tracks white sharks, hasn't reported any near the Jersey coast in a while.”

What do you think? It Wouldn’t be the first great white shark off the Jersey Shore, but maybe we will never know. Have fun this summer and listen to your lifeguards :)
