Three Little Blue Penguin chicks have officially joined the aquarium family, and they’re already stealing hearts.

Three Tiny Arrivals in February

The trio made their debut during the first week of February. The first chick, a male, hatched on February 2nd. A female followed on February 3rd, and another male arrived on February 5th, according to Adventure Aquarium. Talk about a busy week on “Little Blue Beach,” the aquarium’s penguin habitat!

These three cuties now bring the Little Blue Penguin colony to 22 members, making an already lively exhibit even more exciting for visitors.

Growing Up Penguin-Style

While they may be small, these chicks have some big milestones ahead. They’ve recently graduated from round-the-clock parental care and are now under the watchful eyes of the aquarium’s animal care team in a special nursery space.

There, they’ll practice important penguin life skills, building strength, developing coordination, and eventually growing their waterproof juvenile feathers. Once they’re ready and fully feathered, they’ll slowly be introduced back to the rest of the colony.

The World’s Smallest Penguins

Little Blue Penguins are famous for their beautiful slate-blue coloring and petite size,  they’re actually the smallest penguin species on the planet. Native to the coastlines of southern Australia and New Zealand, these energetic birds spend their days swimming and hunting in the ocean. Because of their tiny stature, they’re often lovingly called “fairy penguins.”

And yes, they are just as charming as that nickname suggests.

What’s Next?

The three newcomers don’t have names just yet. Aquarium staff will choose names as the chicks continue to grow and develop, with the big reveal coming soon on Adventure Aquarium’s social media pages.
