Please bear with me today as I’ve been dealing with what I think is Sciatica the last few weeks.

I’ve had trouble sleeping and I’ve been up since 1 o’clock this morning.  I was able to catch up with the last two episodes of “Ballers” so that was a positive.  I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow and will hopefully get a handle on this because it has not been fun.

Speaking of things that are not fun: being a fan of the Giants and/or Jets.  Seriously you can’t make too much after just one game but the Giants defense looks bad and the Jets offense is not much better.  Maybe if you could combine the two you would have a pretty good team.

For what it’s worth I think the Giants are a six-win team this year and the Jets should be around .500 when all is said and done. As for the Eagles, Philly fans will have a lot to cheer about if this team stays healthy.

The first weekend of the high school season included dominating performances by Donovan Catholic and Toms River North and a victory for a team that went winless in 2018.  The North Mariners rolled past Cherry Hill West as Jarrod Pruitt ran for four first-half touchdowns.

The Donovan Griffins were especially impressive in shutting-out a pretty good Linden team while Ryan Clark ran for two touchdowns and passed for another.

One of the best stories of the opening weekend saw Point Beach handle Manville behind a big effort from senior Liam Buday.  The win came in the head coaching debut of Joe Zaccone and this was a Garnett Gull team that went 0-9 last season so there was plenty to celebrate.

Also collecting wins in their season openers were Jackson Memorial, Toms River East, Southern, Lacey and Point Boro.  Of course the big story in the Shore Conference had to be Rumson beating Red Bank Catholic for the first time in 18 years.

It’s a long season but whether it’s the NFL or high school football it is always good to win your opener.
