After what seemed like weeks of dismal weather the final full weekend of summer turned out to be truly spectacular.

Sunday could not have been better for the annual Chef Mike’s ABG Endless Summer Beach Party in South Seaside Park and we were among the more than 200 who turned out to eat and drink for the benefit of “A Need We Feed.”  It was simply a tremendous event with seven local restaurants contributing food selections, great music from Ned Ryerson, prize raffles and more.

Chef Mike, Cliff Baker and the many volunteers who worked so hard should all be saluted for their efforts to help feed those in need.

South Seaside Park will be the place to be next Sunday as well as Bum Rogers hosts its third annual Block Party Fundraiser to benefit Seaside Park PBA #182, Berkeley Township PBA #237 and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Department.

The event takes place adjacent to Bum’s from noon-7pm and will feature food from not only them but Chef Mike’s ABG, Ebby’s Café Alfresco, PJ’s Place, Prime 13, 3 C’s Luncheonette, Europa South and Hemmingway’s.  I’ll have more on this later in the week but put it on your calendar.

Some quick thoughts from the weekend:

  • A great season for the Lakewood BlueClaws came to a rather disappointing end as they fell to Lexington in the South Atlantic League Championship series.  The BlueClaws gave their fans much to cheer about this summer and they continue to be a true asset to the Jersey Shore.  On behalf of Townsquare Media our special thanks to Greg Giombarrese, the radio voice of the team and one of the hardest working guys in baseball.

  • If Saturday was not “rock bottom” for the Rutgers football program than it’s really going to get ugly.  A 41-point loss to Kansas, a game they expected to win, just might be the low point for a program that’s had too many of them.

  • A Sunday in which the Giants, Jets and Eagles all lose means a blue Monday for many.
