A go fund me was started for Matt and his family since getting ill. From Matt's gofundme page:

Matt has a beautiful wife and 4 sons that he loves deeply. He was also a United States Marine who had served in the middle east. Matt is currently a Sergeant for the Ocean County Sheriffs Office. He has always had a passion for Law Enforcement and helping others. Matt had contracted Covid 19 and has been in the hospital since January. While in the hospital, he has struggled with pneumonia and multiple other complications. Let's please keep Matt and his family in our prayers, throughout this very difficult time.

According to Matt's gofundme page, organizer T.H. continues with sad news:

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you all that Matt passed away on 02/22/22. Matt leaves behind a wife and 4 sons that he loved unconditionally. He was such an amazing husband, father, and friend. Matt will always be remembered and forever missed. Let's continue to keep Matt's family in our prayers throughout this tragedy.

Prayers and thoughts to Matthew's family, please donate to his gofundme.com. The goal for Matt's family is $10,000, let's reach that goal for them today.

I'm so sad to see the Ocean County Sheriff's Department lose another one of their brothers. Within this last month, they lost two with Matt passing away from Covid and Officer Brian Stockhoff. My apologies and my heart go out to everyone at the Ocean County Sheriff's Department. This is a very hard time.
