President Obama, VP Biden, The First Lady, Dr. Biden and the White House staff observe a moment of silence to mark the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks at 8:45 a.m. The President will attend a ceremony at the Pentagon Memorial starting at 9:30 a.m.

The 9/11 Memorial in New York will host its annual reading of the names of the victims from 9/11/01. While a number of politicians will be present including New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg attending his final ceremony as mayor and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, none will be making a speech.

Nearly 3000 lives were lost that day at the World Trade Center from 2 planes that brought down the towers, another 44  died aboard Flight 93 when it went down in Shanksville,Pennsylvania and nearly 200 at the Pentagon when a jet sturck the building.

Of the lives lost that day, 38 were from Middletown and 147 from Monmouth County as part of 700 who died from New Jersey.

Fire and Rain: The 9/11 Mix

The late Erik Van Ness, our Creative Services Director at the time, put together a special mix of James Taylor's Fire and Rain with audio clips from the events of the day. Erik lost his fight with cystic fibrosis in 2002.

The Jersey Shore Running Club hosts a 9/11 memorial run at 6PM

Berkeley Township
September 11 Memorial on Park Avenue starting at 8:30 a.m.

Brick Remembrance
The Township of Brick holds a remembrance ceremony and candlelight vigil at 6PM at Windward Beach Park at the Angel in Anguish Monument.  8 Brick residents lost their lives on 9/11/01.

9:50 a.m. at 1417 W. Brigantine Avenue

A memorial event to hornor the 13 residents of the two Chathams takes place at the 9/11 Memorial at the Passaic Avenue entrance to the Library of the Chatham starting at 7:30 p.m.

A memorial service takes placea at the firehouse on Main Street at 7 p.m.

Galloway Township
9:50 a.m. at 7:00 p.m. at Patriot Lake, 300 E. Jimmy Leeds Road

Gloucester County
The Gloucester County remembrance takes place at the Place of Reflection, 9/11 Memorial located inside the Chestnut Branch Park, Main Street in Mantua starting at 8:30 a.m. Three residents of Gloucester County perished on 9/11/01.

7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph”s Church, 222 Third Street

A Township resident who survived attacks on the World Trade Center in both 1993 and 9/11/01 speaks at the Howell Library located on 318 Old Tavern Road. Pre-registration is required by calling 732-938-2300.

A candlelight vigil at Wanda Green Park at 6:30 p.m. Wanda was a passenger on board Flight 93.

Manalapan Library on Symmes Drive featuring patriotic songs performed by Liberty Oak Chorus (Local Chapter of Sweet Adelines)

A wreath laying takes place at the WTC Memorial Gardens next to the Middletown Arts Center at 36 Church Street in Middletown starting at 8:46 p.m., the start of the terrorist attacks 12 years ago when the first plane hit the towers. 37 Middletown residents lost their lives on 9/11/01, the most of any community.

Monmouth County 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
The Monmouth County Park Systemhosts a Memorial Ceremony at Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, Atlantic Highlands, the site of Monmouth County’s 9/11 Memorial, rain or shine, beginning at 8 a.m. The ceremony will be held rain or shine, and all are welcome to attend. Guest speaker is  Capt. David J. “Fuzz” Harrison, former Commanding Officer at Naval Weapons Station Earle.

The Overlook will also be open on Tuesday, September 10 -Thursday, September 12

Monmouth County’s 9/11 Memorial has three symbolic components: a timeline walkway to recollect the events of September 11, 2001; a stone base carved with the names, ages and hometowns of the 147 county residents who lost their lives that day; and an eagle sculpture with a beam from one of the fallen World Trade Center towers.

Parking will be available on Tuesday, 9/11 at East Point Plaza, 2390 Highway 36, Atlantic Highlands, and shuttle buses will be provided to and from the Memorial from 5-9pm.

Rider University
Pulitizer Prize winner Carl Bernstein will present Rider University's 9/11 Remembrance Address at 7 p.m. in the BLC Theater.

Somers Point
8:30 a.m. at Patriot Park, Bethel Road

Fire headquarters by the Memorial Bell starting at 9:55 a.m.

Toms River
Toms River Fire Company #1 will hold a remembrance ceremony on the corner of Robbins St and Washington St at the fireman's statue at 9:30 a.m.Speakers include Mayor Kelaher and Councilman Maurice Hill.

Village Green at 5:30 p.m.

The Town of Westfield holds a ceremony at the town's 9/11 Memorial located at North Ave. and East Broad St starting at 6:30 p.m. rain or shine. 12 Westfield residents lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks
