As many of you know the Causeway Family of Dealerships in celebration of their 50th anniversary has launched a yearlong “50 Golden Acts of Good” campaign to help their neighbors and make a positive impact in Ocean County.

The centerpiece of that is the awarding of a $10,000 grant each month to a local non-profit and this charitable endeavor culminates in December when the Manahawkin-based auto group presents a New Ford Transit Connect Van.

The August $10,000 grant recipient is Tuckerton Seaport, a 40-acre maritime village that includes 17 historic and recreated buildings connected by a boardwalk along the Tuckerton Creek.  Once known as the Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymen’s Museum the site also features a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail, two houseboats, a decoy gallery, a working boatworks building, decoy carving workshops, the recreated Tucker’s Island Lighthouse and more.

A 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Tuckerton Seaport hosts about 6,000 school kids each year and will be using the Causeway grant for improvements to their new ferry which provides transportation to and from the Seaport and will make for a better experience for student field trips.  This “floating classroom” started boat tours in 2018 and is always sold out.

Like other nonprofits Tuckerton Seaport relies on the support of the local community to maintain and improve programs and facilities while inspiring children and families with the history, heritage, artistry and environment of the Jersey Shore.  They also depend on volunteers as they have a paid full and part-time staff of just 6 but have nearly 600 volunteers who offer their time and talents. They join previous $10,000 grant recipients Your Grandmother’s Cupboard, Ocean’s Harbor House, CONTACT, Ocean Partnership for Children, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Ocean County, Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey and Meals on Wheels of Ocean County with the next announcement coming in September.

Founded by David C. Wintrode in 1969 the Causeway Family of Dealerships has been a fixture on Route 72 in Manahawkin and so has been their commitment to the community.  The “Golden Acts of Good” is just the latest example.
