3 Hometown Events to Know About and Support
Bringing you up to date on a trio of local events that benefit the community and deserve our support:
The 46th annual Greek Festival sponsored by the St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church of Toms River gets underway tomorrow and runs through what looks like an ideal late September weekend.
Voted New Jersey’s best Greek Festival and featuring amazing food, live music, dancing and much more the event runs from noon to 11pm on Friday & Saturday and noon to 6 p.m on Sunday. It all takes place on the church grounds on Church Road in Toms River but note that all festival parking will be at nearby Ocean County College (parking lots 2 & 3 only) and there will be continuous shuttle bus service.
For more information you can call 732-255-5525 or visit saintbarbaragreekfestival.com.
The 2nd annual Causeway Superfamily Golden 5K will take place on Sunday, October 6th at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin. Sponsored by the Causeway Family of Dealerships and Clamtown CrossFit the race will benefit Fulfill (formerly The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties) whose goal is to end hunger in the two-county area.
Race day will feature a 5K and 1 mile fun run and the first 250 registrants will receive a T-shirt, there will also be awards and door prizes. For more information and registration visit raceforum.com/causeway
Another wonderful organization that helps with the growing problem of hunger in our area is A Need We Feed and on Sunday, October 6th they will host “Chef’s Tasting on the Bay” at Martell’s Waters Edge in Bayville. Chefs from 16 area restaurants will prepare their specialties and the noon to 4 p.m. event will feature live music, gift raffle baskets, auction items and more plus The Tiki Bar will be open.
All proceeds benefit A Need We Feed, a Toms River-based non-profit organization that prepares, packages and delivers over 11,000 hot meals a year to veterans, children and families in need. Tickets to the October 6th event are $50 in advance, $65 at the door and $20 for children 5-12. For additional information and how to purchase tickets in advance visit aneedwefeed.org
