MOUNT LAUREL - Two police officers were injured after being punched and kicked during a large fight between family members that took place outside a wedding venue Sunday evening, authorities said.

According to the Mount Laurel Police Department, police were dispatched to the Hilton Garden in on Atrium Way at about 8:58 p.m. in response to calls reporting a large fight involving about 20 to 30 wedding guests.

When the first officer arrived and began to question the crowd of people in front of the hotel, another group of people exited the hotel and were "actively fighting," police say.As he attempted to separate two people involved in the brawl, authorities say the officer was punched several times. He and one of the suspects then fell to the ground where bystanders began kicking them.

As additional officers from Moorestown, Maple Shade and Evesham began to arrive on the scene, police say the crowd began to disperse, and some of the wedding guests were placed under arrest.

According to authorities, one of the officers from Mount Laurel suffered a concussion and cuts to his arm. he was treated at a local hospital and released. An adult female wedding guest was also transported to the hospital for an unknown medical condition. Her condition at this time is unknown.

During the course of an investigation, police learned that the fight broke out as a result of an argument between family members that took place during a wedding reception at the hotel.

Joseph E. Mooney, 34, of Philadelphia, was arrested during the incident and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. Police say his bail was set at $5,000 with 10 percent option, which he posted before being released from custody.

In addition, police arrested 17-year-old male from Philadelphia, who was also charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. Authorities say he was released pending a court hearing.
