A 17-year-old died Thursday in a one-car accident on Route 195 in Upper Freehold.

State Police say just before 11 a.m., the girl lost control of her Toyota on the eastbound side just past exit No. 11 for Route 539 in western Monmouth County, veering from the left lane into the median and then across both lanes of the highway into the woods and into a tree on the opposite side.

The girl, who has not been identified, was the only person in the car and no other cars were involved in the crash, according to State Police.

The accident and investigation was not a traffic factor until the beginning of the afternoon commute, as the right lane remained closed.
