An investigation is underway after a fire torched through a home on Jersey Avenue in the North Middletown section of Middletown Township on Thursday afternoon.

The details of the Thursday house fire were announced by the Middletown Township Fire Department.

There were 17 firefighters from four companies starting with the Middletown Township Fire Department who was first on the scene around 5:38 pm as a fire that began on the exterior of the home went up into the attic and through to the roof.

Fire crews worked quickly and diligently to address the rising flames in the attic and outside of the ranch home.

In addition, crews put on Thermal Imaging Cameras for search and rescue efforts and were able to ensure nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters also performed roof ventilation to release the heat and smoke on their way to ultimately putting out the fire for good, which was called by Middletown Township Fire Department First Assistant Fire Chief William Kane at 6:15 pm, and everybody was cleared out by 7:25 pm.

The Middletown Township Fire Department said that the utilities at the home "were secured by New Jersey Natural Gas, Jersey Central Power and Light."

 

In addition to the Middletown Township Fire Department at the scene of the fire they were joined there by the Community, East Keansburg, Port Monmouth and Belford Independent Fire companies along with the MTFD Air Unit, Fire Police and the Safety Unit.

"Port Monmouth First Aid Squad provided medical services, rehabilitating three firefighters. No firefighter injuries were reported."

It's not yet known what caused the fire which continues to be under investigation by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s office and Fire Marshal Edward Skelly.
