12-year old hit by car trying to cross Vaughn Avenue in Toms River
A 12-year old girl was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after being hit by a car as she crossed Vaughn Avenue on her bicycle Tuesday afternoon around 3:15 pm.
Police units were dispatched to Vaughn Avenue and Somerset Drive for reports of a child being struck by a vehicle.
Their investigation found out that the girl was traveling north on Vaughn Avenue on her bicycle when she attempted to cross the road and was struck by a van owned by 21Plus which was driven by Charles Santoriello Jr., 34 of Toms River, who is also an employee of the company.
The child was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center by Toms River CSO as a precautionary measure.
Police say their preliminary investigation reveals Santoriello was not at fault for the accident.
There were no other injuries.
The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Bartoshek.
