Fire at Keansburg Amusement Park after Gravitron explosion

An electrical fire has destroyed the interior of a popular ride on the Keansburg Amusement Park boardwalk.

According to information appearing on Patch.com, no one was aboard the Gravitron, which was undergoing testing before opening.

It reportedly spread from the electrical compartment.

Initial reports from several fire and police organizations had indictated that an explosion triggered the flames at about 2 p.m. Photos from the scene showed black plumes of smoke rising into the air.

Keansburg Amusement Park was built in 1904 and suffered considerable damage from Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
